2012ChineseNewYearParade_Vancouver-3

With the weather forecast predicting a torrential downpour, I nearly skipped the Chinese New Year Parade. An hour before the scheduled start time I realized it was clearing and decided to run down there to see if I could capture some of it on film. I arrived a little late, the skies were grey, it …

While doing a little year-end clean up in my Lightroom catalogs, I decided it might be fun to go through and pick out ten of my favourite images from the past year. The final selection is listed below in order of capture date. Each image represents either a technical or artistic highlight from my last …

Today I experienced one of those forehead slapping moments when I finally realized the value of neutral density filters as the images hit my LCD. On some level I’d always understood how they affected the ways certain elements could be photographed in the middle of the day, bud I’d never fully appreciated how dramatic the …

That’s right, summer in the American desert. Today’s highs? Moab: 36ºC, Joshua Tree: 37º, Death Valley: 45º. For the next three weeks …

While browsing through my archives I came across a photo I’d shot several years ago but never really been able to do anything with. The image has elements I enjoy, but overall felt quite flat. A major contributor to my reluctance to keep working on the photo was my lack of knowledge when it came to certain methods of image manipulation. No matter what I did, I just couldn’t achieve the overal look and feel I felt necessary to make the image a success.

Since the beginning of the year I’ve been shooting and posting to my portfolio fairly regularly, but recently there’s been a bit of a slowdown in that action. The reason for this is that I’m taking these summer months to focus on three key things: Playing outside, shooting personal projects, and furthering my photographic knowledge. …

This is a preliminary casting call for an assistant on some personal/art photo projects happening this spring and summer in the Vancouver area. Interested candidates should come equipped with a fairly low opinion of themselves, a love of working harder than anyone else around them, and a penchant for menial tasks. A typical day might …
